關恆的代理律師陳闖創告訴BBC，關恆的案件有其獨特性，主要是在於他在中國的時候沒有受到直接的政治迫害，但關鍵是他的情況在離開中國之後發生變化。陳闖創指，在特朗普重新上台之後，儘管美國庇護相關的法律沒有改變，但目前是加強收緊、更嚴格地解讀各種庇護申請的案件，「確實在這個範圍內更嚴格了。」
